Drop Spindle Workshop

with Kate

  Learn to spin with the drop spindle, an ancient tool that is still in use today to spin fiber into yarn; the small size makes the drop spindle perfect for a portable project.  The class fee includes a drop spindle and wool.

Beginning Spinning

with Kate

  Learn the basics of spinning on a wheel.  Learn to prepare fiber, spin it into yarn and ply it for knit, crochet and weaving projects.  Practice and build your skills while experimenting with different wheels or bring your working wheel to get comfortable with its rhythms.

Fee $40

Kumo-Himo

Kumihimo is Japanese for cord braiding.  And that is exactly what we will be doing in this class.  We will be having fun with the art of Kongoh Gumi, or, Hard Braid which is a solid cord structure.  This class will give you the option of either an 8 strand or 16 strand version of the “Hearts” pattern.

  Supplies needed:  A kumihimo board, and 2 colors of crochet cotton or embroidery floss.  A pattern will be provided.  Fee $10

Inkle Weaving

with Katie

  Weave a belt, decorative trim or even a small bag.  Use your own Inkle Loom or Rigid Heddle Loom or rent the shop’s Inkle Loom.

Supplies needed:  Bring several colors of yarn and a shuttle for your loom.  Fee $30

Open Weave Felted Scarf

with Kaara

 Make a scarf with a lovely open weave pattern using a rigid heddle loom and wool.  Create a woven piece that only looks complicated.

Enhance your skills if you have woven before, or discover this exciting fiber technique in this class.

Supplies needed:  400 yards of worsted weight 100% wool yarn in two colors.  Scissors, measuring tape, 2 brown paper bags and the tube from a paper towel roll.  Bring your loom or borrow one of ours. 

Fee $40.
